A drawing day
Whilst the clay is drying, I am clarifying the detail that I want to put on the surface of this Piece.
This piece is the third of a group commission for a private garden. The pieces are inspired by a tiny toadstool that was struggling to grow through the roots of a tree. One side grew perfectly and one side was severely restricted, resulting in an off centre centre.I was astounded by the resilience of this tiny fragile thing.
My drawings pare back the detail, leaving what is important to me and loosing the rest.
I end up with just a few lines and an off centre point.
I am aiming for the delicate qualities of the surface of this bee drinker. I have already added colour to the clay body and will add to that with layers of slip to create a surface that feels delicate and fragile.
