The trouble with working on four pieces at once is that there are not enough hours in the day and I’m struggling to get enough done before they dry out. As the clay dries it becomes harder to work, taking the skin of my fingertips! I can’t wait for them to mend so I am […]
New work for the garden
7th February 2017I’m really excited to be having this wonderful piece by Henk Littlewood on show in the garden this year, it is such a beautiful form and I can’t wait to see it outdoors! Henk works in Sheffield and loves to celebrate the varying qualities of different types of wood.
Technique
3rd February 2017Someone asked me if it would be quicker to make these in a mould? It would be far quicker, however these pieces are inspired by seeds and one of the things that I liked best about them was that they are all uniform, with qualities that make them recognisable as a species, yet they are […]
What a Delicious Colour
31st January 2017Now these are more like it, yippeeeee finally I have fired red to melting point and retained the colour. I need to refine a bit, and see if the glaze will still stay on a curved surface, but hopefully I’m nearly there now. Yippeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!
Alchemy
24th January 2017Today I completed this piece for this years show. This image shows the surface application of vivid yellow slip, however after it has dried for 8 weeks, it will come out of the kiln a beautifully metallic amazing black!
Life cycles.
16th January 2017At this time of year the garden is still bearing the beautifully elegant decaying seed heads of last summer, stripped of their flesh and lace like in appearance. This is wonderfully contrasted by the emergence of vibrant swollen fleshy new shoots, full of exciting promise and defying the drabness of winter. I try […]

Jam Packed
7th December 2016Someone pointed out that these photos make my workshop look much bigger than it actually is! It is certainly shrinking daily at the moment, it’s like working in an obstacle course! Only a few days to go till I take most of these to London. Circular Exploration 1 & 2 1 2
Hot Cakes from the oven!
30th November 2016I lifted out two lovely warm pieces today, they have fired so nicely, the colours are great and not a crack in sight! It is getting a bit crammed in my workshop now, I’m looking forward to taking these and two more down to London next week! Very Happy with these. They make […]
Ready for firing.
25th November 2016I finished the detail, working upside down is pretty awkward, I can’t imagine how Michelangelo did it, it’s so hard to keep the lines straight! The kiln is now climbing slowly, though I had hoped to fit more in than I did! These pieces are bigger than I thought! All Ready to fire. v
