Drawing in clay seems to have taken me somewhere else again, I’m not sure if I’m brimming with ideas or just very indecisive! I love the line quality of these slits! I have flooded the dips and cracks with colour and now they can dry. They will look very different when fired butIi think I […]
An unexpected response.
14th October 2016I like to draw with the clay, but it is a bit frustrating when it dries out slowly so I made these pieces yesterday and left them to dry overnight so that I could use them today, to explore ridges and seams. I then spent the evening drawing seeds and my drawings took me in […]
Autumn brings its treasures.
13th October 2016With summer behind us and autumn bringing all its treasure to the garden, I have been collecting seeds, to grow on next spring. I am struck that these tiny beautiful objects all have ridges or seams which presumably allow the seeds to escape in exactly the right way, the best way for maximum seed spread […]
Inspired by the natural world.
6th October 2016This piece is now fired and ready to go to its new owners. It was inspired by a tiny toadstool that was struggling to grow through the roots of a tree. The result was a centre that was off centre, and a beautiful resilient little life form that survived no matter what! I love the […]
Something New.
3rd October 2016I have just unloaded these little tests from the kiln and I think they are really exciting. I love the way that the lines, made with a compass, are distorted by the form, meaning that each time i do this, the shape of the line will be dictated by by the shape of each piece. […]
Sometimes I wonder why I do this.
30th September 2016I am sitting in my workshop watching the kiln, it is not doing anything but I am still here. It is cool, enough to open it but I can’t do it. I feel like I felt when Maisy my dog had an operation, or when my good friend was in labour, sick in my stomach […]
Autumn is upon us.
29th September 2016Today was a fabulous autumnal day and the garden was full of visitors which kept me occupied nicely whilst I wait for the kiln to cool down. Hopefully I can open it tomorrow. Liberation Through by Claire Lee.
Thinking about something new.
28th September 2016Whilst I’m waiting for the kiln to cool down I have to keep busy to stop me from wondering what I will find when I open the door! This is a piece that I made for this years exhibition and it can be seen in the garden until the end of October. I am interested […]
Its getting hot in here.
27th September 2016The kiln is now at 1200 degrees centigrade and still climbing, white hot! I fire so high that the clay starts to melt (vitrify) and this is what makes it so durable when outside in all seasons. It is also completely terrifying! It will soon be too hot in the workshop for the newly made […]
The kiln is on.
26th September 2016I put the kiln on this morning, I like to get it on early so that I can watch it all day in case their is a problem and their was!The controller flashed a warning light telling me that it was running too slow so I took out a few dodgy looking elements and wired […]
