We had a fantastic time at the Yorkshire Artspace events in sheffield this weekend. There was a huge variety of art to see and buy as well as loads of great workshops for children and adults. The Girls loved adding to this wire sculpture under the direction of artist Claire Lee who showed them the technique and […]
Work that Speaks Volumes
12th November 2017Today I visited Anne Windsor at her home in Matlock Bath. I was treated to tea and homemade cake overlooking a wonderful view of the valley, surrounded by very many stunning pieces of work. Anne sculpts with clay and then casts her pieces in resin, lime concrete and also bronze. She is not one to […]
New work for 2018
7th November 2017It was so delightful to visit the sculptor Rosemary Barnett today. I met her in her studio where she was busy chipping away at a piece of stone, revealing two elegant dove like figures. Rosemary was one of the artistic minds behind the Frink school of figurative sculpture. She was also a member of the […]
The last one is out!
31st October 2017I have just opened the kiln and the third and final piece for this group is out. I’m very pleased with it. They are now ready to go to their new home in the south of England.
This piece is going home
20th October 2017It was lovely to share the sunshine with Henk Littlewood who came to move this sculpture called Mind Today. He will take it to Ruskin Land in the Wyre Valley where the principles of John Ruskin, arts, hand crafts, hand skills, architecture and fine art are all celebrated. This work is going to sit within […]
Dry enough to turn it.
12th October 2017This piece is now dry enough to lay on its side, I’m crossing my fingers that the coils will now hold together, rather than splitting. Smoothing away all the lumps and bumps so that I can work on the shape of this end. I risk letting a little air out by making a […]
A Thoughtful Process.
10th October 2017I have completed the top side of this piece and I hope it will be dry enough to turn tomorrow, so that I can work on the base. The clay is a wonderful texture now, it stays where I put it without bouncing back, (which is what happens when it is too wet to work.) […]
Busy in the workshop
6th October 2017I half wrapped these pieces on Monday, so that the tops could dry to the same consistency as the bases. I have now used my thumbs to smooth the clay being careful not to trap any pockets of air. My phone no longer recognises my thumbprint which is no longer there! This clay is like […]
The Kiln Is Open
30th September 2017Today I opened the kiln. My heart is always pounding at this point! I nervously take a tiny peek, I guess this is akin to hiding behind a pillow and only letting one eye see a scary film! I love what I can see so far, but it is somewhat frustrating as I can’t […]
Working In A Lovely Warm Workshop For A Change.
26th September 2017Whilst the kiln is cooling, I am making two smaller pieces. I make these in exactly the same way, but the clay coils are thinner.
