Phew, these are now finished and drying. I did paint a thin white line along the split and then I almost covered it with the yellow slip so that it will be very subtle. Now I just need to make three more to complete the group! I painted white along the edge to continue […]

15th February 2017With these pieces I am trying to capture the feeling when a shoot first breaks through the soil, or a bud erupts or a seed bursts into life. The pointed form is supposed to feel like it has swollen to the point of eruption, and along this seam I am making a line with a […]
Almost done!
13th February 2017These pieces are now formed and the bases are coloured. I am drawing and inlaying white slip onto the surface. These lines depict the seams that are so often found on seeds, the line where it is most productive to split, revealing the precious cargo inside. The circle refers to the point where it was […]
It’s not so glamorous.
10th February 2017The trouble with working on four pieces at once is that there are not enough hours in the day and I’m struggling to get enough done before they dry out. As the clay dries it becomes harder to work, taking the skin of my fingertips! I can’t wait for them to mend so I am […]
Technique

31st January 2017Now these are more like it, yippeeeee finally I have fired red to melting point and retained the colour. I need to refine a bit, and see if the glaze will still stay on a curved surface, but hopefully I’m nearly there now. Yippeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!
Alchemy
24th January 2017Today I completed this piece for this years show. This image shows the surface application of vivid yellow slip, however after it has dried for 8 weeks, it will come out of the kiln a beautifully metallic amazing black!
Jam Packed
7th December 2016Someone pointed out that these photos make my workshop look much bigger than it actually is! It is certainly shrinking daily at the moment, it’s like working in an obstacle course! Only a few days to go till I take most of these to London. Circular Exploration 1 & 2 1 2
Ready for firing.
25th November 2016I finished the detail, working upside down is pretty awkward, I can’t imagine how Michelangelo did it, it’s so hard to keep the lines straight! The kiln is now climbing slowly, though I had hoped to fit more in than I did! These pieces are bigger than I thought! All Ready to fire. v
Finishing the pieces for a Christmas Exhibition.
24th November 2016Today I spent all day drawing in the lines on these pieces which are for a Sculpture and Ceramics exhibition at the Royal Opera Arcade Gallery in London in just over two weeks time. I finished one and am half way through the other so I hope to get them in the kiln tomorrow which […]
